Day in the Life with the B-R Family | Documentary Family Photography in San Francisco

This Day in the Life session really GOT me!

One thing that I love so much about photographing families is staying close to the way family life with very young children feels. My boys are now tweens - well, the younger one is only 9 but he carries on as if he’s months away from getting his driver’s license - and the days of having toddlers in my home feels like another lifetime. I remember how hard it was, how long the days were, how life felt both boring and exhilarating. But I also remember those days as being filled with uncomplicated love and closeness.

Enter the B-R family. They also have two boys, spaced two years apart. They also seemed to occupy that space of being both amazed and needing lots of coffee. They also had one kiddo content to quietly play and one kiddo who had to move-move-move. They even live in a house that has the exact same floor plan as the one I lived in when my kids were very young. The whole situation felt so… specifically familiar and emotionally recognizable.

I found myself marveling at their routines and moments and then remembering that I had a job to do. 😉 It felt like such a sweet gift to be in their presence for the morning and to witness their dynamic from the distance of having gone through it all and made it to the tween years. Thank you, B-R family! I might love your images as much as you do. 😍
