Baby Arya | Newborn Photography in San Francisco

Ahhh, it was so nice to shoot this quiet, sweet home newborn session. It seems like the past four or five newborn session I’ve recently shot included an older (toddler) sibling and the shoots were anything but calm and serene. Not that I’m dragging toddler shoots… but ya know, they’re savages. ;) But back to this session…

This sweet mama and baba welcomed me into their lovely home to photograph their precious 14 day old baby girl, Arya. They were so tuned into her every little noise - as most new parents are - and kept her happy and comfortable for the whole shoot. Every yelp was met with more milk and every shiver was met with deeper snuggles and extra cozy layers. Arya even decide to wake up for the second half of our shoot and give me some A+ expressions.

It’s been more than a decade since I was a new mom, but I still distinctly remember how sacred and intense everything felt in those first few weeks after my son’s birth. I get a twinkle of those feelings when I meet new parents for newborn sessions. I can witness their attentiveness and gentleness and utter dedication and know, at least a little bit, what their current internal experience is. There’s the saying that once you become a mother, you’re bonded to all fellow mothers (past, present, and future) and I feel that for sure. It always feels like an incredible privilege to be invited into these spaces.

And if this family has another baby down the line and invites me back to photograph that new baby, and Arya is a toddler savage that rules the session and demands I photograph her jumping on her bed over and over and over, I’ll welcome it with wide, open arms.
